LITTLE SUNFLXWER with Yasmin Ineson

Writer's picture: BUGoOffBUGoOff

This is B U Go Off's second virtual interview. BUG Off is sitting down virtually with Litlle Sunflxwer - bringing you handmade* crochet* cuteness*

B U Go Off-

"Hi Yasmin! We are thrilled to have you join us virtually for this interview. Little Sunflxwer is situated in Doncaster, UK, can you give us and our readers a brief story of your absolutely adorable crochet shop?"

Yasmin-

"So, Little Sunflxwer was created in March of this year, around the time that lockdown came into action for Covid 19 in the UK. I decided to teach myself to crochet, it was something I had always wanted to do and my grandma crochets, and seeing her work always amazed me! So, as I learnt, I began to make myself little earrings and accessories and friends and family began to ask if they could have some - and so my little business began!!"

B U Go Off-

"I'm kinda in the same vote! With covid and starting a new biz- what are some of the obstacles, if any, you have faced thus far?"

Yasmin-

"There have been soo many hurdles for me on my journey (and definitely so many more to come), as I suffer from anxiety and I feel that sometimes it really holds me back. I have days where everything feels so overwhelming and I want to bury myself in my duvet and close my shop - and then the next day I have a million new ideas and I'll be crocheting at lightning speed for hours on end. I think its just a case of swings and roundabouts - but that is life!!

B U Go Off-

"I completely understand! Times are tough as is! Speaking of ideas- Can you give us a rundown of what Little Sunflxwer specializes in and what sets you apart form the rest?"

Yasmin-

"Little Sunflxwer is a crochet accessories brand - i make hair clips, earrings, hats, bags - all sorts! Everything is made with love from my bedroom, often in a mountain of organized chaos!! I am also venturing into the world of clothing making - so keep your eyes peeled! I am so proud of my little business as it is just me as a person summed up into a brand - i like to create things for myself which i love and use, so the fact that other people also love them is a dream, there have been so many times where i have felt like someone will pinch me and i will wake up and it will all have been a dream! Little Sunflxwer is my positive and happy place, and i hope that i can create that for others. In a world that is so dark and scary, i hope that Little Sunflxwer could be a lil beacon of light for some.

B U Go Off-

"I love that! Every time I see a new design or something you post on IG it does brighten my day! Speaking of brightening up a day, how is your home town? Any likes or dislikes you want to share?"

Yasmin-

"I like where i live as, although it is a kinda small town, there are lots of great creative things to come from it, such as great musicians, brands and artists - the amazing designer Jade Clark is from Doncaster too!

The biggest dislike about it is that although there are lots of really cool and unique people - there are TONS of very judgemental and small-minded people who like to stare and laugh at you if you so much as wear a bright colour! I remember once i got on a train with one of my crochet bags, and was laughed at by a group of girls. It sucks, but thats why its so important to remain individual - to break the mould!"

B U Go Off-

"Sometimes you just gotta laugh em off! I can't understand people that make fun of other's attire. It's honestly such a bore. Ok, so speaking of other people and poking fun *eye roll*... I see people on IG try and discredit pricing for peoples handmade goods constantly! It's absolutely lame... but it's an interesting topic. How do you go about pricing your items?" Yasmin-

"With crocheted items comes a HUGE pricing debate. Crochet is such a slow process, things take hours and often days to complete. This means that in current circumstances it is hard to pay yourself fairly, as the high street and big retailers have made the majority of people believe that all clothes should cost a lot less than it really should! So many crochet businesses i know have really struggled with pricing, as we want items to be affordable, but we also need to pay ourselves a living wage and earn a profit somewhere. The stigma needs to end."

B U Go Off-

"I completely agree! No need to exploit yourself just because fast fashion has corrupted the pricing range on crochet items. I think there is slowly a change and awareness for pricing going on like never before for handmade goods- and we are here for it! Yasmin, I want to thank you for carving out some time to sit down with B U Go Off virtually. The tea has been spilt with Little Sunflxwer, and I wish you the best on your biz <3!"
